Geo Set & Material Exploration

Developed out of an intense material exploration, Geo Set is a modular concrete table-top set comprising coasters, small trays, a bowl, and a candle holder, all designed with o-rings to prevent table surface damage.

Brief: Select a material and explore it. Design a tabletop object that exploits your material's characteristics and properties

Duration: 1.5 months

Industrial + Delicate

My goal was to combine the industrial aesthetics of concrete with a soft material

Material Exploration | Round I

Textures, colors, weird combinations, soft containers, etc.

Round II

Extruding, casting around bags of water, using nuts to create perforations, etc.

Round III

I became particularly interested in combining concrete with thread, which was inspiration I developed through my exploration. The thread would allow the concrete to be used a table-top object without damaging any surface.

Round IV

To simplify fabrication and increase durability, wrapping textiles around the corners proved a better solution than creating perforations in the concrete.

Round V

To further simplify fabrication, I substituted o-rings for thread.

Form Development

Inspired by the geometric shapes that developed naturally through my material exploration, I pursued a family of objects that would work together through modular, geometric forms.
