Brief | In a team, create an open source design for a 3D printed hardware that functions as a clothing fastener. All designs will be submitted to the researchers at cloTHING(s) as Conversation research initiative at Emily Carr University of Art + Design for usability testing. Duration | 2 months.

Plus Sign + Structure + Interaction + Conversation

cloTHING(s) as Conversation conducts all of its fashion research using a plus sign-shaped pattern, and thus, all of our research and tests were focused around the plus sign.

This diagram visualizes the goal of our project: use the plus sign pattern to create three-dimensional fashion to stimulate social interaction and conversation.

Modelling

The driving force throughout our modelling process was the desire to create a system that allowed for creating body sculpture.

Design Edits Needed

1. More Attachment Possibilities
2. More Intuitive Form & Use
3. Separation of Functions

Final Design

Aesthetics of our hardware pieces were initially a major concern. For our final design, we abandoned this concern to focus entirely on function. We sought for Allometry to successfully provide users the ability to quickly and intuitively create three-dimensional structures with fabric.
